La Barbotière
Overview
Welcome at La Barbotière. Bed and Breakfast in Burgundy close to the vineyards of Chablis.
Guest house in an old farm, overlooking the fields and refreshed by a stream.
Enjoying calm and rest between Chablis, Vézelay and Saint-Fargeau in Northern Burgundy.
A stream runs around the property, fed by upstream fields. A pond located near the entrance gate is particularly appreciated by our friends the ducks and the geese.
La Barbotière was built at various times. The oldest part is a rectangular tower at the end of the 16th century, which today houses a library located on the ground floor. Then, a Burgundian house was built at the end of the 18th century, which today constitutes our residence. Subsequently, two outbuildings were built around 1850, one allowing us to welcome our visitors via a large common room and the guest rooms. These independent constructions allow us to offer you dedicated access to common areas and to the guest rooms.
Our two recently renovated rooms, Chablis and Coulanges, will offer you a highly comfortable stay, in total quietness. They are both equipped with Wi-Fi Internet access and a digital television. They have an independent entrance from the owners allowing you to come and go in complete freedom.
Served between 8:00 and 9:30, breakfast is often an opportunity to interact with our visitors to prepare the activities of the day. We give priority to fresh products of the region in selecting breakfast:
Coffee, selection of English teas and chocolate, Freshly squeezed orange juice, Bread and croissant, Organic yoghurt, Jams from local producers or home-made, honey from local producers, with, according to the inspiration of the day, additions such as homemade cake, seasonal fruit or regional cheese.
You will have breakfast in the old dining room of the time when La Barbotière was a renowned gastronomic establishment of the region. This space dedicated to our visitors will also allow you to spend good moments around billiards, or simply by the fireplace. Tucked in the middle of the room, a beautiful oak staircase serves the guest rooms located on the first floor.
Located on the ground floor of the old tower of the 16th century, the library will seduce you with its old style underscored by modern colors and lights. At the same time a reading room and a TV room (a 40 inch TV is installed), it is also decorated with an English style stove, which you will greatly appreciate in autumn. The Wifi network available to our guests is also present in this room.
Its name would translate into English as “The Paddle Pond”: La Barbotière is an old farm, located at the edge of the village of Chevannes. It constitutes an ideal base to discover the city of Auxerre, the Yonne valley and the vineyards of northern Burgundy, notably Chablis, but also tourist sites of The Puisaye sub-region, as the castle of Guédelon, the castle of Saint Fargeau or the market of Toucy. And the Basilica of Vézelay is hardly further.
If the region calls for an extended stay to discover its many attractions, you may also consider La Barbotière for a stopover on the way to your holidays, simply relaxing in the quietness under the trees, by the water, or taking advantage of the comfort of the spaces at your disposal.
Whatever your interests, we will welcome you with pleasure and simplicity and will share with you our knowledge of the region.

SUGGESTIONS FOR REVIEWERS
Describe the key elements of the accommodations : decor, hospitality, value, housekeeping, setting, and/or meals. What were the highlights of your stay? A comfortable bed and elegant decor? The convenient location? The delicious breakfasts and afternoon snacks? The hospitality of the innkeepers? Extra amenities and/or advice for business or vacation travel? If in the area again, would you return? Recommend to friends?
Be both honest and fair : We feature various types of accommodation - some more luxurious than others ... Criteria of charm vary from person to person
We offer a wide selection of quality guesthouses for all tastes and budgets
It is not fair to compare a guesthouse that charges €75 a night with a nearby property that charges double or triple that rate.
Things can go wrong in the best of guesthouses, and the difference between an average place and a great one is how the innkeepers address the problem when something unexpected occurs.
Avoid hyperbole : Reviews that include only effusive praise or complete condemnation are rarely helpful or even credible.
Innkeeper responses : There are at least two sides to every story (often three!). The reviews posted on the Charming Guest Rooms website are taken seriously by innkeepers.
We reserve the right for innkeepers to respond to any review.
