Overview
We Welcome you to our Historic Green Hotel!
Our Historic Colonial Revival is a perfect destination for your romantic getaway.
Set in the lovely village of Bellows Falls, Vermont, our home is comfortable, elegant, and a designated Green Hotel by the State of Vermont, as well as a member of the Vermont Fresh Network of local farmers and consumers.
Let your imagination take you to another time. You are the house guests of William and Sarah Hall, two of the village's most prominent citizens. The house, built in 1892 was named a few years later by the Ladies Home Journal as one of the ten prettiest country homes in America, and you are an honored guest!
We hope your stay with us is relaxing and pleasurable. Enjoy the comfort of our various public rooms. Our Great Hall with its impressive three-story atrium is a unique architectural feature. Relax by the fire, or wander into one of the original twin parlors. When the house was built, the parlors were designated for ladies and gentlemen; cigars and brandy in one sherry and women talk in the other. We have turned the men's parlor in a library and it is one of the favorite rooms of our family and friends, a place to cuddle up on a chilly Vermont night with a book and a crackling fire. Our town's literary guild meets here the fourth Thursday of the month. If you are lucky enough to be here then, please join in the discussion. The ladies' parlor is a perfect spot to relax in the morning, its subtle light inspires a calm start to he day. Do you play the piano? Across the Hall is our little game room where you can try your hand at the traditional backgammon, chess, cribbage, mancala, or the more contemporary Clue or Monopoly.
In the summer, our rose garden is a popular lingering spot; you may even encounter a few of our friends strolling the brick paths. We have over 50 types of roses, mostly antique, for you to enjoy. Relax on our massive, wrap-around front porch, rockers and white wicker await. Or, spend a leisurely rest in our gazebo which sits under a massive 200-year-old sugar maple tree with a 92-foot wing span!
Breakfast is served from 8:30 to 9:30. Coffee is available at 7:30 for early risers, but if you need to eat a bit earlier let us know in advance. Also, please let us know if you have any dietary requirements. We can accommodate any special need from vegan to Atkins. In general, we support our local farmers and use organic foods whenever possible. The milk, eggs, butter, and cheese is almost always organic, and our maple syrup comes from our friend's sugar house just down the road. Our cereals and baking products are also organic. Even our bacon is nitrite free and comes from pigs that were raised with no antibiotics. We can direct you to sources for some of the best cheese in the world, and this is no exaggeration.
Afternoon tea is served at various locations in the house, or porch, at 4 p.m. perhaps scones and our own raspberry jam.
Our rooms are elegant and comfortable, and each one has a view of a garden!
We want your stay here to be a special experience, and we provide robes, turndown service, televisions, air conditioning, cd players, and radios. Our beds are all made with a soft featherbed, lots of pillows, and in the winter our down comforters and quilts will keep you warm. Most rooms have a fireplace, and whirlpool bath.
From wine to roses, we can furnish anything you need, and if you have a special event such as an anniversary, please let us know in advance and we'll help you in your planning.
Breakfast at Readmore is a treat.
The dining room has lots of windows and light, and features a "millennium" mural on all four walls depicting the area 100 years ago, and 1,000 years ago. You will dine by candlelight, and in the fall and winter we'll light a fire. Vintage linens and Irish crystal grace the table, but that is just the stage for the meal. We use local organic products whenever possible: chicken and duck eggs, milk, butter, world-class cheeses, produce, and maple syrup from our friend's sugar house down the road. Sausage and bacon are hand made locally, but we also offer vegetarian alternatives that are most pleasing, and can cater to most other dietary requirement from low-fat to low-carb, but please note we do not have a Kosher kitchen.

SUGGESTIONS FOR REVIEWERS
Describe the key elements of the accommodations : decor, hospitality, value, housekeeping, setting, and/or meals. What were the highlights of your stay? A comfortable bed and elegant decor? The convenient location? The delicious breakfasts and afternoon snacks? The hospitality of the innkeepers? Extra amenities and/or advice for business or vacation travel? If in the area again, would you return? Recommend to friends?
Be both honest and fair : We feature various types of accommodation - some more luxurious than others ... Criteria of charm vary from person to person
We offer a wide selection of quality guesthouses for all tastes and budgets
It is not fair to compare a guesthouse that charges €75 a night with a nearby property that charges double or triple that rate.
Things can go wrong in the best of guesthouses, and the difference between an average place and a great one is how the innkeepers address the problem when something unexpected occurs.
Avoid hyperbole : Reviews that include only effusive praise or complete condemnation are rarely helpful or even credible.
Innkeeper responses : There are at least two sides to every story (often three!). The reviews posted on the Charming Guest Rooms website are taken seriously by innkeepers.
We reserve the right for innkeepers to respond to any review.
